2014 SFIDBF Race Wrap Up
19th Annual Kaiser Permanente SF International Dragon Boat Festival Race Recap (Treasure Island - September 20-21, 2014)
It was another great weekend of fun and racing with 115 mixed crews competing!
There was a record number of teams racing in the Corporate/Novice division with 38 crews representing some of the Bay Area's top corporations and community organizations coming out on the water to rumble. IBEW-Local 6's Kilowatt took top honors in the Novice A Championship edging out the always-strong San Francisco Fire Department Fire Dragons who took second. The California Academy of Sciences's Leafy Seadragons crew had a very strong first-year showing to take third and have their sites set on the top spots for next year!
The High School division had 21 crews competing for bragging rights and to settle rivalries for the year. Missing the podium at the CDBA Youth Race earlier in the season, Lincoln Gold came out strong to win the High School A division over the Lowell Cardinal Crewzers in second and the Galileo Celestial Dragons in third. Lincoln also saw its girls crew, the Lincoln Ladies, wing the Girls Championship while Galileo combined with the CDBA Youth Race champions, CYC, to form a combined crew to take the Boys Championship.
The Rec/Comp division 26 visiting crews join 30 local crews for some tough racing all weekend. Bay Area New Gen (B.A.N.G), a combination crew comprised of several CAU paddlers, DW alumni and other friends, came together for the weekend looking for gold but couldn't hold off the Canadian charge from the up and coming Dreadnought crew from Vancouver who took second and the return of Air Canada Jetstart from Toronto who took first. This was Jetstart's 11th time competing in the San Francisco Dragon Boat Festival and their second time winning the coveted Competitive A Division title. Jetstart added to its medal collection winning the Visiting Team Championships, the Master's Final, and combining with B.A.N.G. to take gold in the Women's and Men's division.

Finally, be sure to mark your calendar for September 19 & 20, 2015 as the 20th anniversary of the Kaiser Permanente SF International Dragon Boat Festival promises to bring even more visiting teams, higher competition and more festivities than ever. Teams should look to register early as it will likely be a blow out and sold out event !
